Past News & EventsSecond Annual Spring Cleanup - April 18, 2009You may have seen the signs at the park announcing our "spring cleanup" event. You may have noticed that they are now gone, and we hope that you have noticed that the park is nice and tidy. Unlike a year ago, the weather cooperated beautifully. It was bright and sunny day—not too breezy, and not too warm. We couldn't have asked for a better day to enjoy the park, even when "enjoy" meant "picking up trash."Nine enthusiastic volunteers turned up: Trey Taylor, Dena Taylor, Dan Ryan, Joann Pfeiffer, Tina Eide, David Bjorklund, Tammy Bachman, Nicole Bachman, and Steve Bachman. We filled nine of the large trash bags supplied by the City of Little Canada's Parks Department, and we piled up an assortment of larger trash, including car parts (bumper, part of a grill, muffler, tire), and large pieces of twisted metal. Smaller trash included hundreds of bottles and cans, tennis balls, tennis shoes, styrofoam, and a wide-assortment of food wrappers. We would like to thank the city and its Parks and Recreation Director, Jim Morelan, for their support of our group and for their maintenance efforts at the park. We'd also like to thank the Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District (RWMWD) for its role in creating and maintaining the site's natural wetland appearance and functionality as a stormwater treatment site. We were very excited to learn that the RWMWD will be celebrating Earth Day by picking up trash along Gervais Creek from Noel Drive to Labore Road on Wednesday, April 22. |
