About the Park
The History of the Park
In the 1840s, Benjamin Gervais founded the first privately-owned grist mill in Minnesota.
Gervais Mill Park is located on the original site of this mill. Construction of this park
and the ponds began in 1992 and was completed in 1994.
Purpose of the Pond
The purpose of this project was to treat stormwater runoff before it empties into Lake
Gervais. According to the RWMWD site, the ponds were "designed to work in tandem
with the Owasso basin project to provide for removal of 60% of the phosphorus load from
Ditch 16 into Lake Gervais."
